Debrief & Report Writing

Topic: Theoretical Training

Identify Component: We had this 3 weeks theory about mammals, birds, geology, ecology, weather & climate, grass, Amphibians, arachnida etc.

Strong points: I’ve learned much more about the different types of grass, trees, mammals etc. I enjoyed it allot...The assessments helped alot.

Challenges: The assessments was to close together, I couldn’t get all of the workbooks in my head.

What did you learn: About the completing of the workbooks, if you complete the workbooks you learn much more.

How can we make this better: Not to do assessments on the same day or after the day we handled it.

Topic: Roster

Identify Component: A roster of our weekly happenings, what we are going to handle in class and in the bush.

Strong Points: It’s nice to have a roster to see what we are going to do in the week.

Challenges: -

What did you learn: How to read and follow the roster.

How can we make this better: Maybe to put on the roster where we work on the weekend.

Topic: Welcoming

Identify Component: Welcoming guests on Friday’s and Monday’s.

Strong points: Learned how to get along with people , to talk to them in Afrikaans and English...My English is better than it was.

Challenges: Forget to tell the people to remember their green conservation slips alot.

What did you learn: How to communicate with people and to get to learn them.

How can we make this better: Maybe not to welcoming in the rain.

Topic: Conservation

Identify Component: Helping Sieg at the Wildlife Centre...closing roads, cutting grass.

Strong points: Get to know the brush cutters, and what to do in case of closing a road.

Challenges: Feeding some of the animals.

What did you learn: What to use in case of closing a road...and how to use a brush cutter.

How can we make it better: There is not much to do in case of conservation.

Topic: Wildlife Centre

Identify Component: Help feeding the animals, cleaning the cages and helping to clean the environment.

Strong points: I love feeding the animals and to play with the serval kittens.

Challenges: Feeding the rhino’s is tuff ,because you have to run with the buckets to the open area where they stay in the day.

What did you learn: How to feed the animals, how much milkpowder they use for the bottle’s what to give to thw lions to eat and at what time they eat.

How can we make it better: -

Topic: Guiding

Identify Component: Taking guests on a gamewalk/gamedrive.

Strong Points: Telling the guests of the variety things I know about.

Challenges: On my first tractor gamedrive I told one of the guests that a zebra’s stripes are all the same

What did you learn: How to communicate with the guests and learned more about the animals.

How can we make it better: Making the gamedrives a bit longer.

Topic: Student on duty

Identify Component: Have to take control of the students, to make sure to look if they are on their places where they work. Also to stand as satellite to help out if there is anything to do.

Strong Points: Learning how to make sure everybody is on their spot where they are working, helping others out.

Challenges: -

What did you learn: How to take control of students.

How can we make it better: Nothing you can do to make it better.

Topic: After hours activities

Identify Component: Night gamedrives, Bring & Braai

Strong Points: Working with different people

Challenges: How to treat a night gamedrive isn’t that easy as it sounds you have to work carefully with a spotlight.

What did you learn: How to work with a spotlight.

How can we make it better: -

Topic: Academy Duty-The academy was closed

Topic: Socials

Identify Component: Going out in the week with the students on the farm.

Strong Points: At what time they need to be back on the farm.

What did you learn: How to keep everybody in the shape for the next day.

How can we make it better: To get a roster and follow it...
